Day of the Dead Celebration
Day of the Dead Celebration
The end of October brings with it the Day of the Dead. This traditional Mexican holiday celebrates death as a natural part of the cycle of life. Celebrants see it as an opportunity to support their loved ones, who have passed on, in their spiritual journey. Collecting the departed’s favorite food and drink for a ceremonial altar is a common practice and serves to remind the living of the presence of the honored dead and perhaps entice the spirit to visit the living.
The Santa Ynez Valley Botanic Garden and City of Buellton Arts and Culture Program has embraced the Day of the Dead this year offering several workshops throughout the month of October to educate and prepare for the holiday. These workshops have featured classes on dealing with grief and loss, expressing yourself through art, music, and dance, and even guided meditation and yoga.
