Movies Filmed In & Around Buellton
Movies Filmed In & Around Buellton
Buellton has provided a gorgeous backdrop for countless filming projects for television and movies. Between our natural beauty and retro style, Buellton’s downtown and surrounding areas complement all types of projects.
Paddleton (2019)
This Netflix movie premieres on February 22, 2019 and stars Ray Romano and Mark Duplass. We haven’t seen the movie yet, but can’t wait to see how much of the area is explored when it releases next month. We’ve already glimpsed quite a few local landmarks in the trailer!
Check it out:
Sideways (2004)
The local film most commonly recognized is probably the smash hit Sideways, starring Paul Giamatti, Thomas Haden Church, Virginia Madsen and Sandra Oh. While the film featured locations all over Santa Ynez Valley, some of the most iconic spots are right here in Buellton.
- The “windmill” motel where the guys stayed is now our recently renovated and beautifully appointed Sideways Inn.
- The Hitching Post II is where the guys meet Virginia Madsen, and is a reoccurring location throughout the film. Don’t want to wait until dinner? Now you can experience the wine from the movie right next door at Hitching Post Wines!
- The Clubhouse bar and lounge that the guys spent time in is now Sideways Lounge, beautifully remodeled and on-site at Sideways Inn.
- AJ Spurs Restaurant & Saloon made an appearance as well!

Grindhouse: Death Proof (2007)
Directed by Quentin Tarantino and starring Kurt Russell and Rosario Dawson. This movie featured some epic driving scenes around Buellton on Highway 246, and on Figueroa Mountain Road in Los Olivos.
Fun Fact: According to the About page on Kurt Russell’s GoGi Wine website, it was while filming this movie that Mr. Russell discovered how amazing Santa Rita Hills and Santa Barbara County wines were. He reached out to his friend and fellow actor Fess Parker to discuss their shared love of wine, and the rest is GoGi Wine history! Learn all about his locally produced varietals at gogiwines.com.
Somm 3 (2018)
While not directly in Buellton, Somm 3 introduced a brand new audience to Sta. Rita Hills Pinot Noir. Sta. Rita Hills AVA extends from the western border of Buellton to the eastern border of Lompoc, in a stretch of scenic drive approximately 16 miles long. It is also home to some of the most prestigious vineyards in Santa Barbara County.
The collection of vineyards that made their big screen debut with Somm 3 is known as Domaine de la Cote, and the Pinot Noir is from their Bloom’s Field block.
The tasting room for Domaine de la Cote is open by appointment only, located near the bustling wine area known lovingly as the Wine Ghetto in Lompoc. There are different tasting and tours options available, and the one we recommend includes a tour by car of the vineyards just outside of town.
