Raise a Glass to Wine Country
Sta. Rita Hills Wine & Fire
August 13–16, 2026
Santa Barbara Vintners Festival
October 17, 2026
Fall in the Santa Ynez Valley begins with two signature celebrations of Santa Barbara County wine.
Every August, wine lovers gather throughout the Sta. Rita Hills for Wine & Fire, a four-day celebration of the region’s acclaimed Pinot Noir, Chardonnay and cool-climate wines. The weekend features vineyard experiences, intimate seminars, winemaker dinners and the festive Grand Tasting at La Purísima Mission.
Later in the season, the Santa Barbara Vintners Festival brings more than 70 wineries and 25 food purveyors together for an afternoon of wine, food and live music at Folded Hills Polo Field on October 17. Both events offer an opportunity to taste broadly, meet the people behind the wines and experience the energy of harvest season.

The Sideways Effect: Did you know that most of the iconic movie Sideways was filmed right here in the Santa Ynez Valley? Jack and Miles stayed at Sideways Inn, wined and dined at Hitching Post II, and explored far reaching corners of the Santa Ynez Valley with Buellton as their home base!
While the movie certainly helped to amplify our region as a wine destination, it also produced an economic phenomenon known as “the Sideways effect” – which brought Pinot Noir to the forefront of red varietals and caused a loss of interest in Merlot. NPR even shared an interesting article on the impacts this fictional wine country romp had on the very real wine industry, which you can read here.
