Support Small Businesses This Holiday Season
As with every other small town across America, our family-owned businesses are the lifeblood of our local economy.
As a part of the Southern California region, Santa Barbara County returned to a stay-at-home order on Monday, December 7, and to be in place through Monday, December 28. After an already challenging year, our local small business owners are overwhelmed with the changes and adaptations they’ve had to make to keep themselves, their guests, and our community safe during this pandemic. And these new restrictions leading into the holidays couldn’t have come at a worse time for many of them.
While you might not be able to come and stay with us right now, please consider ordering online from any of the businesses who have virtual storefronts below. A single gift card purchase for a future visit or a few specialty items bought as gifts for yourself or others can mean the world to our local families, trying to keep their businesses open.
If you are close enough to drive to Buellton for the day, many of our restaurants and retail locations are still providing in-person retail and gift card sales, take out and to-go orders for all of your holiday gifting needs. If there is a business in particular you are interested in visiting, please contact them directly to learn about their current hours, offerings and restrictions.
The best way to support our local restaurants is to visit them in person and pick up food for take away, or buy gift certificates as gifts or for use during future visits. You can find a full list of our Buellton restaurants and their contact information here.
Cookies aren’t the only things made for holiday decorating! The team at God’s Country Provisions has outdone themselves with festive Holiday Doughnut Decorating kits, now available by mail! While you’re at it, grab some of their feel good gifts like their popular “Be Kind & Eat Doughnuts” apparel and “It’s Going To Be A Good Day” mugs, too.
There are few things more iconic during a visit to Buellton than the flame grilled goodness of Hitching Post II’s beloved menu: except maybe HP2 founder Frank Ostini’s pith helmet. Wear one while you sprinkle “Magic Stuff” over whatever you are cooking and marvel at how adventurous your kitchen has become!
The heartwarming nostalgia of a piping hot bowl of split pea soup can help melt away even the coldest of winter days, and Andersen’s makes their pea soup available year round through their online marketplace. You can also order their special seasonings, a bucket of buttery danish cookies, their savory onion cheese bread and more!
Berry picking season may be behind us, but the great folks at Santa Barbara Blueberries have their unique gifts and goodies from the Berry Shop available online year round! Order raw sage and blueberry honey, beeswax candles, locally made shrubs and vinegars, and even Restoration Oaks grass fed beef.
The best way to support our local wineries is to join their wine club and enjoy their wines throughout the year, and you can find a list of all of our local wineries and their contact information here. For one time only gifts, these other unique offerings might be just the right fit for that wine lover on your shopping list. (Even if it’s yourself!)
Bring home the wine made famous by Miles and Jack in the iconic movie Sideways: Hitching Post Pinot Noir! In addition to their wines, the online shop also features gift cards for online purchases that you can email to the Sideways fan on your list, plus sweatshirts and hats including the famous Frank Ostini pith helmet.
No matter what your holiday plans look like this year, Margerum Wines has a holiday bundle for you! In addition to a wide variety of gift sets, they also offer sip-ready Riviera Rosé cans in convenient packs of 6, 12 and 24. We’ll cheers to that!
Enjoy a specially curated wine and cheese box for two featuring a bottle of Tempranillo, Manchego Cheese, Chorizo, Spanish Piquillo Peppers and Firehook Sea Salt Crackers – OR – Give the gift of wine and cheese throughout the year with their Wine & Cheese Club! Featuring a new selection every two months.
Sanford Winery has an incredible assortment of holiday wine bundles to choose from, including a beautifully etched limited edition Pinot Noir to help make this holiday a memorable one. Plus they offer a limited assortment of half bottles – just the right size for smaller celebrations this year.
* Change the filter option from “- All Size -” to “Bottle (375 ml)” for available half bottle varietals.
When it comes to beer, our local breweries have put Buellton on the map as a craft beer destination. Now you can bring that destination to your doorstep with their online marketplaces!
Inspired by our little corner of California’s Central Coast, Figueroa Mountain Brewing Co.’s beer and assorted gifts will have you feeling like you are soaking up the sun from Gaviota Peak or hiking the trails of Grass Mountain.
Firestone Walker Brewing Company is one of the most well known brands in craft beer, and their wild ales brewed right here in Buellton have a serious cult following. With their online shop you can score limited edition brews, men’s and women’s apparel, accessories and more!
Did you know that many of our local businesses offer a wide variety of custom, locally made items beyond their core offerings? These are a few of our favorites!
Sure they have everything you could possibly need for your next ambitious crafting project; from Ric Rac and webbing to Notions and kits. But what stole our hearts are their awesome custom tees, like this Best Quilt Shop Ever shirt, or their popular All Stitch, No ***** – perfect for the avid crafter on your list!
You might know them best for their farm-raised pork, goat and poultry products; but did you know they also have a selection of handmade lard soap? With refreshing scents like lemon lavender and lavender rosemary, these all natural soaps lather up with creamy, silky bubbles that are gentle on your skin.
These are just a small selection of the amazing businesses we have here in Buellton. You can find contact information for each of our partners using the category links below. We are grateful for your interest in supporting local businesses this holiday season. Wishing you and yours a safe and happy December!
